    I worked at University of Calgary part-time

    Pros

    Autonomy in the truest sense. Flexible hours, freedom to run with ideas, and the ability to plan your own path.

    Cons

    Feedback from higher ups is frequently shallow. Being on your own is a double edged sword.

    Pros

    Close to Canadian Oil & Gas center
    Easy to find job

    Cons

    No more good professors
    Industry doesn't value research in oil and gas
    Industry forces the university to give out BSc graduates and no more! They want fresh engineers and import technology from the US.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Reduce the number of graduate students
    Increase the stipend of graduate students
    Hire more reputable professors
    Separate Petroleum department from Chemical Engineering
    Fire some of the professors
