I worked at University of Calgary full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Lots of fantastic professors who really do try to make significant contributions to their field(s) and are dedicated to training.
Great City.

Cons

No real support for students pre/post graduation. Training can be horrific if you get in the wrong lab... although I imagine that is the case for lots of places. The quality of people they hire is not the quality that they train (solely in regards to publication record/quality).

I have been working at University of Calgary

    Pros

Flexible work schedule, option to work a 4 day compressed work week, if agreed with department head, time off for holidays, weekends, maternity and paternity leave, lots of support for non profit educational and health activities.

    Cons

Institution does not pay bonuses. Nevertheless, its understandable given the limited revenue sources, and uncertainty regarding provincial revenues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

On-going job specific employee training should be emphasized
