I have been working at University of California Berkeley

Pros

Huge community of co-workers, lots of employee development resources, excellent benefits, relatively secure jobs.

Cons

The longer you work at UC Berkeley, it seems the less qualiified you are to work anywhere else. They pay is less than the private sector, and we are subject to furloughs and reduced hours because of the budget cuts. There are a lot of UCB systems that you have to learn to navigate to do your job, but once you learn them its not so bad. Initial job training isn't always there for you, you have to find someone to teach you what you need to know.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think they are doing a great job with what they have to work with.

I worked at University of California Berkeley

    Pros

This was a student position, so it was very convenient to work here while living on campus. Hours were flexible.

    Cons

I asked for more responsibilities, but was told none were available. Spent most of my job autoclaving glassware and making solutions for the lab, which was incredibly boring.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Speaking generally (and more as a student here): More transparency. Reconsider whether capital projects are the best use of university funds.
