I have been working at University of California Berkeley part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Work study is available for those who need it. The SA-IT department are majority students, so you are working with your peers. Unlike other campus jobs, you can actually move up on the ladder by applying for senior staff.

    Cons

None! It's a great job for students.

I have been working at University of California Berkeley full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good health benefits, except maternity leave.
    Decent scientific resources: equipment, people
    Overall positive environment, beautiful campus

    Cons

Maternity leave policy is immediate 3/4 pay for 6 weeks, after which you receive no more payment without returning back to work full time. If, as a postdoc, your position is up for renewal (as it is every 2 years) you will not be renewed and you will lose your pay and health insurance promptly after having a child. This is actually pretty horrible, and Berkeley should fix this.
