Pros

Top tier talent, great support staff, excellent campus environment. Strong campus leadership and a constant buzz of events and activities.

Cons

Can be somewhat isolated from surrounding community; can also be somewhat closed off ideologically. Could use better resources in some areas (e.g. grad student career development).

Advice to Management

Take time to get out of the academic realm and engage with the community, especially with businesses. Encourage businesses to understand the strong potential of the students at all levels.

  1. My internship gave me flexibility but not entirely everything I was hoping to learn.

    Pros

I had flexibility to work when I wanted, better understand my field of interest, and meet people in the corporate and academic world.

    Cons

While I was hoping to work oriented towards my major at UC Berkeley, I did more administrative duties, often spending days at a time doing online research and writing papers.

    Advice to Management

Push your interns to do more and go outside their comfort level, but give them support when they do it.

  2. No handholding, but if you make an effort you will be stellar

    Pros

Great research resources, world-class faculty. If you know what you want, there WILL be a way to get it.

    Cons

Too many choices -- freedom can be crippling and overwhelming. Analysis paralysis
