I have been working at University of California Berkeley part-time (less than a year)

Pros

There is a wonderful community on the UC campus. Benefits are good and really incentivize staying a long time at the university.

Cons

There are a lot of politics when it comes to changing jobs, getting raises, etc. Things move slowly, so for someone interested in a fast-paced and frequently changing landscape, this may not be the right place.

I have been working at University of California Berkeley

    Pros

The diversity of experiences and perspectives is unparalleled to any institution of higher learning that I have ever been to. Also, the students are extremely involved and engaged with their world as a whole.

    Cons

There are a lot of issues that come up just as a function of being a public institution - facilities are not the nicest in the world, generally speaking, and the campus does attract a few crazy people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Upgrade the gym facilities!

I have been working at University of California Berkeley full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Stability, flexibility and a place where one can manage a life and a career. Benefits are average, but health care choices are good.

    Cons

Bureaucratic quagmire and political pressure are applied in all departments. Management methods are uneven and rewards/merits for performance are random and insufficient.
