Pros

Great benefits, a great learning experience surrounded with very knowledgeable and competitive people.

Cons

Absence of work-life balance, compensation for a postdoctoral appointment and living in the Bay Area is too low. I had a baby during my stay at Berkeley and the evaluation of my performance was unfair and non-ethical.

Advice to Management

Regulate the salaries and compensation for postdocs, take into consideration the cost of living in the area.

    Pros

This is a world-class school, everywhere you go you meet bright people.

    Cons

Ages behind the times as far as technology is concerned. IT leadership hasn't yet heard about the internet. The only career opportunities in software engineering are in maintenance of old systems, or implementation of new systems that use obsolete technologies or concepts.

    Advice to Management

Hire innovative people to lead IT, not bureaucrats and bean counters.
