I have been working at University of Central Oklahoma part-time for more than a year

Pros

The best thing about this job is the flexibility. I can adjust my work schedule to fit around other things.

Cons

The challenges of this job include having to find things to do to stay busy. This job requires personal motivation and initiative .

Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice to management is to lighten up. Some of upper management is very formal probably because they're in acedemia.

I have been working at University of Central Oklahoma full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Two weeks off for Christmas. One week off for Spring Break. No overtime for hourly employees.

    Cons

Pay, UCO pays 85% of market value for a position, as its policy demands. Almost no room for advancement. Supervisors look to keep you were you are, they do not try to grow you as an employee. There are rifts between most divisions and the Office of Information Technology. There hiring policies are a joke, the good ole boy system is in effect. UCO doesn't respect your educational background, they would rather hire people with high school diplomas and a few certificates over degree holders, to care for the students that are earning their higher education.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your HR department is a joke, I would start by replacing them all. The Office of Information Technology is hated by many in the university, I don't know how you fix that. Your pay scale is terrible, you routinely hire masters degree holders for 35k a year, full time faculty at under 50k. How do you expect people that have accrued huge student loan debt to work for that little? Pay your employees better and stop throwing meaningless appreciation events, take that money and give it back to the employee.
