I have been working at University of Chicago part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

They pay well compared to other similar jobs for people without degrees
Great variety of jobs to choose from, and it's easy to move departments if you so choose
    great campus
    many coffee shops nearby
they really respect their employees and try to do what is fair

    Cons

    it can be stuffy
if you don't agree with your boss, you're in for trouble
very much a shut-up and do your work mentality
very slow with pay raises, in fact you won't get one unless you're about to quit

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

the organization needs to work together rather than separately. Sure, the student care and resources center can pay it services to design a site... but why run these departments all separately? many things fall through the cracks, and if you're in the crack, you're gonna have a bad time. there's little support if you fall outside their standard procedure. Management needs to be more accommodating and understanding that not everyone is the same.
