Pros

It has a great central location. It is a very esteemed university, so you are surrounded by high-quality students and staff members (for the most part).

Cons

The university sometimes seems a bit fragmented, and no one knows what anyone else is doing. It is difficult to sort out administrative work within the university.

Advice to Management

I would strive to provide more part-time jobs for university students while they are studying at the university. It is difficult for students, particularly research students, to find a job; the university is missing out on a pool of talent!

    Pros

University of Edinburgh has an excellent international reputation in many fields, as well as top notch facilities and exceptional colleagues. It is located in one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, where living expenses are reasonable.

    Cons

Management could be more career-supportive, and bridging money between grants can be difficult to obtain. Campus culture can be behind in social equality at times.

    Advice to Management

Management could be more career-supportive, provide more useful training and bridging money between grants. Social equality issues (race, nationality, gender, orientation, religion) should be actively addressed.

    Pros

Edinburgh is a great place to live in. You can walk to work. The working environment is top class. People are friendly.

    Cons

As a researcher can be very lonely at times. Most communication is done via email. It's easier to burn out if you are not careful.

    Advice to Management

Take more time to hear from your employees how they feel.
