I worked at University of Essex as a contractor for less than a year
Pros – - university campus environment
- close-knit community
- generous employee packages
- good transport links
Cons – - bureaucracy
- many of the workers they are used to working at a public sector pace and therefore it can be hard to get things done quickly
- the university suffers from a lack of communication between departments... and therefore it can be hard to utilise the benefits of so many intelligent individuals in one place.
Advice to Senior Management – - create better communication between departments
- encourage cross-department interactions
- weed out the lazy and slow workers.
