I have been working at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign full-time for more than 8 years

Pros

A wealth of knowledge lies at your disposal.

Two categories of employment, Academic Professionals and Civil Service, offer great benefits in the form of sick and vacation time, as well as tuition reimbursement, medical, dental, eye care and retirement packages.

Employees are friendly and open to suggestion and hard work.

Cons

Campus employment benefits do not extend particularly far outside of the Urbana-Champaign area, and a culture of incuriosity surrounds off-campus employment.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find ways to shadow employees in all positions, to support in a manner that removes walls between management and workers. Build trust, tear down bureaucracy where possible, and encourage learning in all walks.

I have been working at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great technicians in my department (very capable).

    Cons

Horrible HR issue in signing up for benefits - had to run across campus from building to building just to find the right forms and signatures. Was not advised on new employee opportunities/training (had to learn how to get a mailbox, keys, building access, basic things).
