I have been working at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Very flexible work hours depending on which students you work for; you can work as many or as few hours as you would like

    Cons

The administrators have no idea how to do their jobs properly. In general, they are out of touch with the employees and the students living in the program.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leave your office once in a while to see how things are actually going

I worked at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Generally a pretty flexible work environment depending on the department you get hired at. The benefits for academic professionals are great, lots of vacation time. The academic/research environment provides a great opportunity to learn and the community is pretty nice.

    Cons

The State of Illinois is having severe budget problems and UofI has had furlough days or years without raises pretty often. You will make less than your market value in base salary.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

UofI needs to adjust it's salaries to be competitive with the corporate sector or risk losing it's superior and innovative knowledge base.
