I have been working at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Incredible opportunities for collaborations across top rated departments. Very supporting, nurturing environment for graduate students in the beginning of the program. You can take courses from different departments, for instance, in addition to your major PhD program in Econ you can complete master in Statistics or Mathematics.

Cons

Top rated departments are very demanding to the quality of research. It is not a con in general, but the droprate 40% on some departments (after 5 years) should be announced in the very beginning of the program.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make the structure of the PhD to be more transparent. Do tell people what will happen to them if they are not becoming professors and going to the business sector instead...

I have been working at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Spacious, nice facilities, awesome faculty and smart graduate students. Not much distraction, and you have a very quiet, relaxed life that will help you concentrate on researches.

    Cons

UIUC is located in a typical "university town", with few connections and little internship opportunities to real industry world. If you wanna go to industry instead of academia after graduation, you need to plan your outreach and networking by yourself by traveling to bigger other places (at least 3 hour drive).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

University itself is very nice. I hope it could provide more career fairs to help students find jobs.
