Current Employee - Nursing Assistant in Iowa City, IA
Current Employee - Nursing Assistant in Iowa City, IA

I have been working at University of Iowa full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Good benefits, decent salary, exciting work environment.

Cons

Low level support personnel have punitive workloads that border on abusive. The current governor has declared war on the union and he is seeking to freeze our pay raises and slash our benefits packages, as well as severely restricting our rights to collective bargaining. Employees who leave aren't being replaced, only adding to the burden on support staff.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get back to your mission of providing quality patient care instead of being driven by profit.

    Pros

Iowa City is an amazing place to live and work.
Networking opportunities are always available and people want to help you succeed.

    Cons

Being a public/government institution, there are always bureaucratic hoops to jump through to get approval for anything. A million people have to sign off on something as simple as a mass email.
