I worked at University of Kansas Medical Center full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

There are some nice people who are truly helpful and want to focus on getting work done, but they are few and far between. A few people even want to complete research activities.

    Cons

A pathologically political environment that makes it difficult to get any real work done. Colleagues spend more time attacking each other and spreading gossip instead of collaborating on research together. Unfortunately, the abusive culture starts with the EVC and trickles into all locations downwards from there. You can't trust to be mentored; there is an "eat your young" mentality among senior faculty.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management and the HR departments need to read the "No A$$---- Rule" book, and apply it to their hires. This place gives academia a bad name.
