Pros

- Intelligent Coworkers - Reasonable and understanding management - Great pay for college students - Breaks during school holidays! - Intrinsically rewarding

Cons

There really isn't much I can speak poorly of "The Study"-- occasionally coworkers would slack off and management doesn't easily control or stop that, which forces you to work much harder, but I personally enjoyed the extra work at times.

Advice to Management

Create some incentive or require students to provide more feedback for the service they receive. Possibly require that tutors pass academic tests for the subject they tutor.

    Pros

UKY was in the top 10 in USA for doing postdoctoral research! It is a nice peaceful city, great for families and very affordable housing. Groceries are OK but not great for younger people looking for lots of social life...

    Cons

The public transportation is bad and the parking for employees is ~400 per year. Post-docs could get only up to 75% of NIH based salary for the position and experience (this is internal UKY policy).

    Advice to Management

Please de-freeze the salaries of regular staff people and give pay rise instead of investing in very expensive sometimes equipment.

  2. Little engine that can't.

    Pros

Great 2x IRA match: hope it lasts. Good work / family balance. Collegial coworkers. Pleasant environment. Reasonable openness. There are some good people here that go above and beyond.

    Cons

No raises for faculty and staff for the last two years, heading for three years now. Crazy escalating parking fees. Many people actively hiding their incompetence / do-nothingness rather than actually doing their job. Lots of deadwood that cannot be pruned. Ossified management structure.

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to be "Top 20" and just focus on being the best you can be with what you are.
