I have been working at University of Kentucky

Pros

The benefits are great and it's a very flexible place to work-- great work/life balance. You can almost always get time off if you need to.

Cons

The infrastructure of the university is terrible, though-- no one ever knows what's going on and it takes a million years to get anything done if you have to rely on people outside of your own office.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get your act together and get rid of all the bureaucracy. There is no reason I should have to get 5 peoples' approval to pay a research subject.

I worked at University of Kentucky

    Pros

The main academic area is pretty small, and the research activity is limited.
If you work for someone who has money, you're pretty much left alone by the other parts of campus.

    Cons

Lexington isn't great if you're not college-aged and single. Between Keeneland, UK sports, and downtown there's plenty to go and do. Just feels like you see the same people all the time.

If you're over 30 and not married or not have kids you will be looked at funny and shunned.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You con't have to put all the money into the medical center. It's okay to have stellar departments elsewhere on campus.

I worked at University of Kentucky

    Pros

    - Intelligent Coworkers
    - Reasonable and understanding management
    - Great pay for college students
    - Breaks during school holidays!
    - Intrinsically rewarding

    Cons

There really isn't much I can speak poorly of "The Study"-- occasionally coworkers would slack off and management doesn't easily control or stop that, which forces you to work much harder, but I personally enjoyed the extra work at times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create some incentive or require students to provide more feedback for the service they receive.
Possibly require that tutors pass academic tests for the subject they tutor.
