I worked at University of Maine System full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

They offer free dental insurance (it helps but doesnt pay much) and discounted eye insurance. You can also have inexpensive health insurance if you are willing to have a "life coach" talk to you monthly and are willing to submit blood work yearly. If not, the insurance is unaffordable. The union does at least help with cost of living pay raises, which otherwise would be non existent for hourly employees.

    Cons

Working environment is abusive at best. Filling a travel mug with plain water is considered stealing. and one is forced to watch endless videos on how to maintain a positive attitude at work. You can ask for a day off weeks or months in advance because of a family reunion or wedding or such, but don't think you will actually get it off, not even if a coworker is willing to swap days with you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop telling your employees to be happy and actually listen to them. Treat your employees like you treat yourselves. This university once did value its employees. Today it only values the people who make the big bucks.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO
