I have been working at University of Manchester

Pros

MG is one of the biggest media companies and is experimenting with doing some innovative things in the way of converging broadcast, newspaper and internet into one media company. Work for a Media General company and you get the opportunity to expand your knowledge across several different mediums, making you a more valuable employee.

Cons

Media General is highly dependent on the newspaper industry, which is a dying industry. They are beginning to move towards a "web First" strategy, but they are an extremely slow moving ship to change. Ideas take a long time to vet their way up to corporate, and most things take so approval on so many levels of management that often, its not worth the time or energy.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get off the newspaper high horse - its dead already.

I have been working at University of Manchester full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good library facilities and beautiful buildings.

    Cons

Bullied and threatened. When complained about it, the bullying continues further. When a complaint is given, the first response is to meet the person who bullied you and solve it. Most of the time they give a: " i cannot help you type of answer." The people who generally investigate or receive complaints help in covering up the violence done by their colleagues. The Severely damaged my career and is now suffering from traumatic stress.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't just say that there is zero tolerance against bullying, and try covering it up. Create a system where people who commit harassment are brought to question and exposed.
