Good experience, not a long term option.

I worked at University of Melbourne

    Pros

Flexible work life balance, laid back environment. Great people to work with, nice to work somewhere that does make a positive contribution to the community through its research. Decent benefits.

    Cons

Too much University bureaucracy, too many employees who aren't competitive but simply stick around for the staff benefits. There aren't enough career progression opportunities as there are in the private sector.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Should be greater focus on innovation and performance management of employees. Those who under perform should be pushed out.

I have been working at University of Melbourne part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good pay and clear expectations. Most people are lovely and helpful, although some are not so helpful and a little odd.

    Cons

On several occasions it took me months to get paid. This is reasonably common because the system is quite complex, and there can be several people required to approve pay.
