Former Employee - Document Scanner, Taubman Medical Library in Ann Arbor, MI

I worked at University of Michigan part-time (less than an year)

Pros

Flexible schedule, friendly/helpful supervisors, work relatively straightforward

Cons

No real possibility for advancement, though that's to be expected--MLibrary is aware that this might dissatisfy some employees and thus has modest wage increases tied to number of hours logged--UM Housing is much better is this regard, odd aberrations in the library's organization (the alphabetization system, for instance, occasionally counts punctuation as letters, causing journals to not be where they should be), ILLiad scanner client prone to crashes, lack of other libraries informal benefits (e.g. more convenient location, more interaction among staff, snacks, etc.)

Recommends

I have been working at University of Michigan part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

There are great benefits to working on campus- I could work between classes for 2 hours at a time if I wanted.

    Cons

Bureaucracies are really good at shuffling their feet- it was sometimes hard to get things done with management often slowing the process down.
