I worked at University of Missouri part-time (more than a year)

Pros

Tutoring is a lot of fun, and can be really rewarding. You get the opportunity to really help other students not just to survive a class, but actually like the material.

Cons

There's not a huge downside to this job. The pay is on par with other campus jobs and your hours are very flexible; you basically set your own hours.

The one complaint I had, though it was no fault of the Student Success Center, was that there was no often little or no coordination between professors and tutors. Since tutors worked face-to-face with students, we learned what worked and what didn't in terms of teaching the material. In no way am I claiming that tutors could do professors' job better than the actual professors, but I believe we had some valuable input to give. There was really no systematic or formal way to do this. Perhaps in the future, there will be, and that would certainly be a good thing for the students we were there to help.
