I have been working at University of North Carolina (More than 5 years)

Pros

The organization is committed to efficiency and transparency. Everyone is very dedicated to working for the benefit of the public and the organization as a whole takes their jobs very seriously. Leadership is interested in employee engagement and strives to provide a good work experience for staff. Overall a good place to work.

Cons

In efforts to be efficient, a lot of processes can use improvement as they still seem complicated, yet can probably be blamed on state government and operating at the mercy of the legislature. Depending on your division, some managers could be more involved than others in day to day responsibilities and direction.

I worked at University of North Carolina full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Being a Royster fellow gives you. The opportunity to network with bright grad students from all sorts of disciplines. The money's good, considering it's a grad stipend.

    Cons

Some of the Royster meetings aren't that useful.

I have been working at University of North Carolina full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great University, Currently a great department, Great town and metropolitan area. Most professors and groups support healthy work-life balance.

    Cons

High student fees make compensation less than it seems. Take $2000 off your yearly stipend to find out what you will really be making. Because of the recent scandals at UNC, things tend to get swept under the rug.

    Advice to Management

Compensation needs to be more, but they are slowly increasing the graduate stipend in my department.
