Pros

Great programs for minorities and are really trying to make it a university that people want to be at....plus one word HOCKEY!

Cons

Grand Forks is cold! And all the work being done by the university is not helping the attitude of the community. Its not the greatest place to live and parking at UND is horrible and expensive. I've never had to pay so much for a parking pass. Plus it seems the rule are ambiquous and they will ticket you in a heart beat. Also there is not a lot of female instructors. Or minority ones.

Advice to Management

Make your staff as diverse as you are trying to make the university itself. Take more care of employees. Say a lot but don't do a lot. On more than one occassion I've seen "whistle blowers" take the fall for things that should be taken care of in order to create a more healthy productive work environment.

    Pros

Enthusiastic and very fulfilling. You feel very welcomed and the resources you have on campus is very helpful!

    Cons

Location of the school, nearest city is Minneapolis which is 5 hrs away.

  2. Good place to gain experience, hard to turn into career.

I worked at University of North Dakota

    Pros

The culture is geared towards progress. Communication is very easy between every employee and management. Plenty of work when you want it, and plenty of time off when you don't. Pay is comparable, but could be better. Excellent facilities, personnel and aircraft. One of the best places to be a flight instructor or mechanic. Team effort around every corner with management willing to listen to ideas to improve.

    Cons

Due to significant size growth, there are still some growing pains dealing with how to ensure everyone gains the skills they need on time. Pay is ok, but hard to build a family or gain a safety net. Benefits are basic. Politics play a significant role in a number of career progressions. Being in an academic field, most employees are hired from the inside, and are colleagues from classes and clubs. Location can have hostile weather in the winter and heat of summer.

    Advice to Management

While benefits are better than some, there is a large amount of room to take care of employees better. Those that stay for years tend to become disenfranchised with career progression at UND Aerospace.
