I have been working at University of Pennsylvania

Pros

Penn provides an intellectually stimulating environment.
They offer all employees many oppurtunities for professional growth through their Education & Training program.
The benefits package is better than others in private industry.

Cons

Salary levels for staff are lower than other private industry employers.
Lack of job orientation for staff positions.
Faculty and Administration show little respect toward staff members.
Common mindset of "we've always done it that way" prohibits change.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Identify and acknowledge top staff performers with appropriate promotions and salary increases. Implement cross-training and team building among staff members.

    Pros

    The benefits are good. Colleagues are nice. Work/life balance is generally encouraged

    Cons

    Pay is not always comparable with private industry for staff people, There is a caste system in a sense, where faculty are at the top and sometimes act like "royalty".

    stressful, construction, some of the university is in a bad part of the city
