I have been working at University of Pennsylvania full-time (more than a year)

Pros

Great scientific environment, it is easy to set up collaborations. Great speakers quality during various seminars. Great benefits package..

Cons

Compared to academia, pay is not good and not fair..You also have to fight very very hard to get promoted and get a better salary although HR is always trying to slow you down and reduce your salary (even if you bring lots of funding) because it has to be fair with other employees ! Let the people competent and motivated grow as much and as quick as they should !!!

    Pros

Penn is a good name brand in academia to forward your career. Average to above average inter-lab collaboration. Active postdoctoral group that promotes networking and funds travel.

    Cons

Postdoc pay is low for the hours you are expected to put in, but that's the case everywhere. The campus "neighborhood" where medicine labs are located has an industrial feeling and offers few places to escape to when writing or not at the bench.
