Pros

Very limited overtime requirements for salaried academoc staff; good support resources locally and at Corporate in Phoenix, AZ
Academic freedom is alive and well at University of Phoenix contrary to popular opinion; instructors are allowed to midofy courses as long as learning objectives are maintained and students produce results on exams.

Cons

1970's reactive culture; flavor of the month response to sometomes imagined threats to the business.

"Career progression" model makes it extremely difficult to move up in company.
I worked for UOP for almost 3 years and was very disappointed. They bring people in by offering free education and a great experience. The truth is, this is not a good experience and there are limits to the tuition waivers they offer. (for example, you cannot take more than 5 graduate courses within a year.) Management is composed of uneducated people who moved up from being a telemarketer during the "golden days" of this company when sales (enrollment) were non-stop and everyone was a rock star on the phones. Unfortunately they have horrible leadership skills and your success is based on the friendship with him/her. As a Finance Advisor you are mostly dealing with people who have not paid for their tuition and therefore cannot continue with their program...in other words, collections. If you do not have excellent customer service skills or if you do not have patience for escalated phone calls with ignorant people then you will surely fail at this job. This is not an advising role as the job title makes you believe, this is still a sales and retention role. The company restructured their "career progression" model which made it practically impossible for anyone to move up to management or leadership role. If you plan on making a career in customer service or phone-based sales then this might be a good fit, otherwise stay away. You will not get any credible experience in either finance or advising.

    Advice to Management

Managers are 'stuck' in their role as much as the employees they're managing. Executive management should structure the career progression model to make it more feasible for people to move up.
