I worked at University of Phoenix full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Free/discounted tuition for employees, gym and cafe on-site, good healthcare benefits and decent pay.

    Cons

Upper management makes decisions that negatively impact both employees and students. They are so far removed that I don't think they understand the impact of the changes they make. Severe lack of communication about changes. Lack of appropriate training.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend time with actual students and advisors in order to witness how terrible some of the major recent changes are.

Current Employee - Academic Counselor in Tempe, AZ

I have been working at University of Phoenix full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Supporting students to reach their goals, feels great. Almost-free tuition through UOP, WIU, and other subsidiaries. Decent benefits package and vacation time.

    Cons

Upper management seems to make decisions based on business and numbers, and fail to think of how to incorporate it at the student-level...oftentimes putting additional pressures on the counselors and advisors. Managers don't manage anymore, they "coach"...barely.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Talk to counselors and advisors first to see what trends are, listen to their input. While at the end of the day you have to listen to your stockholders, you also need to listen to the students, so they'll refer others!
