Former Employee - Work Study Position As An Undergrad in Los Angeles, CA

I worked at University of Southern California part-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

-Free stuff! There are so many events that Rec Sports hosts with a lot of free things, which is nice.
-Jennifer Siu (Associate Director) bakes all of the time, which is great.
-Being in an environment that is service and student-centered.

Cons

-Sometimes communication amongst administration and Student Affairs and Athletics can be questionable. Also, the distribution of office responsibilities is a bit rocky.

    Pros

    - Allows you to learn many aspects of a certain field
-Allows you to network with many people who have been in academic administration for a long time
    -casual work environment
    - Great Benefits

    Cons

    - Hard to advance above people who have been there for years
    - Poor communication from managers and senior leadership
-Rely heavily on part- time student workers to tend to administrative work
    - Below average Salary

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to allow people to grow by letting them work on many aspects of academic administration but the lines of communication from top to bottom need to be much more clear.

I have been working at University of Southern California full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Yes, the benefits package is comprehensive but benefits don't put food on the table or a roof over ones head.

    Cons

The old adage, "Those that cant teach, is in full display at USC"
Parking is being removed for buildings and not being replaced.
Food choices on campus are being removed and replaced with $12 buffet, overpriced und under performing.
