I have been working at University of Southern California full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Benefits are excellent, as is attention to work/life balance for most areas within the university. Great working hours (unless you're in IT or Facilities), and

    Cons

Lower salaries than market, but that's to be expected at most HigherEd institutions. However, it's difficult to keep top talent unless something other than money brings them in. Also, inertia for established relationships, procedures, etc., is difficult to overcome.

I worked at University of Southern California as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

The place is great if you manage to get in on a permanent contract. Flexible work hours, friendly people, great opportunity to learn, self pace,

    Cons

Downside is that very often these are temporary positions outsourced to staff agencies. That means that the agency is taking a big portion of your money.
