    Pros

Great colleagues, lifestyle, 17% superannuation, interesting projects. Reasonable support for promotions along the academic career path, but their requirement that you demonstrate you've been working at the level you're trying to be promoted to for a year is ridiculous. You'd be far better served by leaving and returning at a higher level than playing by the rules and trying to get promoted from within.

    Cons

The university has absolutely no idea about turning research into viable businesses. If this is what you want, get out ASAP.

    Advice to Management

Stop equating business development with patent trolling. Give academics 100% ownership of their IP, and support them to create businesses. The rewards will eventuate through bursaries later down the track. Your current strategy stifles innovation, and you're losing a lot of valuable IP through researchers deliberately not disclosing it.
