Not as great pay as you could get in industry jobs.

I have been working at University of Sydney

    Pros

Teaching at the university pays well but it really depends on the faculty. e.g. in Business & Economics, rallying for better conditions and pay (e.g. getting paid for time spent on training) is commonplace, but almost unheard of in Science.

    Cons

Depending on the discipline you might often meet very arrogant academics who think that their qualifications give them the right to treat you in a condescending manner.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would suggest more involvement with unions, but as with companies, that is not likely to happen.

I have been working at University of Sydney

    Pros

Good working hours, friendly people (many of whom are students as well). Work is clearly explained, with good filing systems. Flexibility throughout the day and appreciation of work life balance

    Cons

Generally, I didn't feel especially challenged in the day to day work as an admin assistant. Would have welcomed more mentoring.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Suggest more regular staff emails and perhaps a newsletter to keep everyone up to date about progressions in the workplace
