I worked at University of Texas at Arlington full-time (More than 8 years)

Pros

Working with students, staff, faculty, and university administrators is fascinating. Meeting people from all walks of life and all levels of education is a true benefit if one simply embraces it. I loved working for UTA.

Cons

This is a state institution, so pay could be better.

Advice to Management

As with many employers, too many employees simply come to work when they feel like it. Monitor mid level employees (staff, primarily) via peer review for punctuality, attendance, and work ethic: it will open your eyes to the people who actually accomplish the work and those who are NOT doing it.

I felt like the small town people have slower life pace. Somwtimes make me losing my compatitive. Need to be more aggrasive.

    Advice to Management

    Overall is good.

  2. The great benefits do not compensate for the extremely low pay.

    Pros

Youthful vibrant atmosphere, fantastic State of Texas benefits, Teacher Retirement System plus SSN, flexibility of shift scheduling, sense of community and deep tuition and fee discounts.

    Cons

Budget cuts affect every facet of employment. Most departments are perpetually short-staffed, under supplied and over tasked. Very minimal advancement opportunities and the few available require competent political manipulation skills.

    Advice to Management

Evaluate and compare the total cost of extreme employee turnover with salaries more comparable with civilian corporate schedules.
