I have been working at University of Texas at Austin full-time for more than 10 years

Pros

- Diverse campus with interesting people and inspiring work
- Located in a great city
- For the most part, job security
- Retirement benefits are pretty nice

Cons

- Too much red tape
- Concerns about potential legal repercussions often stifle innovation
- Very stratified organization, with complex decision making patterns and sometimes conflicting agendas

Advice to ManagementAdvice

- Consider giving staff the same retirement benefits faculty enjoy
- Organizational communication needs improvement; the divide between academics and administrators seems to be growing in difficult economic times.

I worked at University of Texas at Austin full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Free housing, free food, great people, amazing learning experience, educational, paid well, weekends off (normally), and you got to introduce incoming freshman to the greatest school in Texas!

    Cons

Can be intense, long hours, strict rules, could be extremely frustrating at times, and at times I felt as if I was walking on eggshells.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

During my experience as an Orientation Advisor, I felt as if I was constantly walking on eggshells, even when we weren't during session.
