Pros

Good Monthly Stipend
Learn a lot about the subject you teach
Instate Tuition tuition so I save about 12,000$ in out of state tuition

Cons

Only that you have to attend lecture every week which might seem boring as you probably know the whole material.

    I have been working at University of Texas at Austin full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    Great benefits, paid holidays, sick and vacation. Paid leave for Winter closing at the end of each year. You can transfer within the university after 6 months and there are endless opportunities. A great place to get your feet wet.

    Cons

    No pay equity research conducted and often the only way to get a salary commensurate with your duties is to transfer within the university or leave. Some of the employees have a "state worker" mentality and they are counting the days to retirement. Ineffective management in many areas who are often promoted because they have "worked" in an area longer than everyone. Not as stable in the past because donations are down and many top salaries outdo industry. At some point you have to decide if you want to become a lifer or have diverse work experience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Operate like a business and let the cream rise to the top. Implement processes and procedures to ensure departments run efficiently, do not reward employees who take off all their leave every month with raises equal to those of employees who show up. Have benchmarks for excellence and enforce them, so that sub-standard work is identified. Conduct a salary survey, some administrative employees are making more than professionals just because of salary ranges.

    Pros

    Top Tier school; rated 25th best university in the world! Plan II Honors is on par with Ivy league style, liberal arts; sciences; and humanities, classic education.
    There are Colleges for every major or interest: Engineering, Geosciences, Arts and Sciences, like Biology and Geography, Nanotechnology and optics, gene therapy and remote sensing.
    Located in Austin.

    Cons

    Huge campus that still gets overcrowded in the Fall term before it settles down.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    More Green spaces and less cars on the Forty Acres, make more peak pedestrian traffic times no car times
