Pros

Excellent location - Austin is a busy, exciting place to live and work. Excellent benefits - Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance, which was extremely useful during my time working at the university.

Cons

Some parts of the research facilities feel very dated - a decade or so behind the state of similar facilities in other (even less prestigious) academic institutions.

    Pros

Working in Information technology they allowed you the time to properly research most projects to expand skills. Benefits are good, with flexible schedules and casual dress code in most areas.

    Cons

Due to recent budget cuts raises are rare and never enough to keep up with cost of living. In most cases the only way to get a significant raise was to obtain a new job in a different area of the university. People stagnant over time due to the casual environment, I've worked with many people on campus that should have been let go long ago for more productive people.

    Advice to Management

Merit raises to keep the productive workers you have.

  2. Great Place to Go To School, Not To Work

    Pros

Good state benefits. Flexible schedule with grant work.

    Cons

The high educational requirements for many jobs do not match the low pay.
