Overall positive experience mainly because of the people who work there. It could have been better though.

Former Contractor - Research Assistant in Toronto, ON (Canada)

I worked at University of Toronto as a contractor (more than a year)

Pros

Having a permanent or full time position is ideal because you get better benefits than if you are simply on contract (as I was); people are very very nice; there was a positive and relaxed working environment; great possibilities to network in your field; the workplace (campus) is beautiful and there's access to all types of food; the area is well served by transportation

Cons

Benefits for temporary or contract positions are not good; students who work at uoft generally get paid around minimum wage but are often expected to work a lot

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The work-study program should be revised so that wages are adjusted according to the positon and responsibilities rather than having a flat rate for everyone.

I have been working at University of Toronto

    Pros

Teaching assistant is a well paying job. Depending on the department you are affiliated, overall management does a good job.

    Cons

Large institute, so do not get to know lot of people outside your department. Other than this, not much to say.
