They don't pay at a competitive rate, for all the extras that an MA will do at the hospital

I worked at University of Utah Hospitals & Clinics full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good benefits-but have found equal elsewhere. Only worked 3 days a week. Some of the best and smartest I've ever worked with.

    Cons

    Constantly understaffed.
Low pay, with little to no chance of a raise.
Don't know about areas of improvement until you are being written up or on your annual review.
No option to move departments when medically recommended.

I have been working at University of Utah Hospitals & Clinics

    Pros

The benefits are amazing. Some of the best retirement and health benefits in the state. Also, tuition reduction (50%) for employees, spouses, and dependents is great. The pay is at comparable to anywhere I have seen. They pay you what you are worth.

    Cons

Parking is a hassle. The cafeteria is expensive and because parking is so bad you can't really leave for lunch. This makes breaks a little expensive or you have to bring your own.
