I have been working at University of Utah as a contractor (more than 3 years)

Pros

Friendly people to work with, nice location, good equipment, very clean, knowledgeable staff, good pay, all in all there is no better place to work for in the education field than the University of Utah

Cons

There is almost no guarantee that you will have class to teach in the coming semester. The quantity of class distributed can be random and unfair.

I have been working at University of Utah full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, good work/life balance, cool environment, flexible schedule, management is typically supportive of employees continuing their education or obtaining advanced degrees.

    Cons

Little opportunity for advancement, compensation is driven more by time with the organization than by skill or contributions. Some departments pay better than others, but in general salary will be less than a similar position in the private sector.

I have been working at University of Utah part-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The city is spectaticular. It only lacks a beach. The professors are knowlagable about their specialties. Intellegent coworkers. Fairly easy to get funding.

    Cons

Research assistant pay, inversions in the wintertime. Pay for grad students is 20K at most. Sometimes getting stuck on projects that do not help graduation and getting on to a carrier.
