The research facilities and core instrumentation make science here enjoyable and productive. The environment is collegial and productively competitive.

    Cons

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Current Contractor - Research Assistant in Salt Lake City, UT

I have been working at University of Utah as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

Generally more relaxed schedules, Professors who supervise research are usually driven and passionate. Excellent opportunity to develop skill sets and network.

    Cons

Often PhDs also required to teach classes, distracting them from research.
Sometimes professors choose students for research based more on personal reasons rather than on skill, talent, or desire to contribute.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop relentlessly gauging research budgets. And stop building more buildings when the current ones are under utilized. Where's the much needed parking structure.
