Pros

This place a good work environment. It is very supportive for research. I was able to set my own schedule, which was very nice.

Cons

I have been here for six years and have not been paid very well. The pay is competitive, but not easy to live off of. It's difficult to graduate and move on if everything doesn't go exactly as needed.

    Pros

There are jobs for virtually every skill set you can imagine. There are always plenty of new projects coming along so plenty of opportunities to develop your skills.

    Cons

Salaries are below market in many areas. Funding from the state is always a challenge and can make it a difficult place to work if you're not accustomed to government work.

    Advice to Management

Get creative about how you generate revenues and tie more more of your operations directly to those revenue streams.

  2. PhD Candidate in Chemical Engineering- great environment that fosters education and experience.

    Pros

While the hours are long and you have to work well past 40 hour weeks you get a great education, and there's still some time to have fun and take in all that Salt Lake City has to offer, including all the ski resorts and hiking trails within half an hour of campus.

    Cons

You will end up working more than 40 hours a week. Sometimes it feels like you'll never finished. No validation for the work you're doing until you get the degree in the end.

    Advice to Management

More encouragement to graduate students and maybe some more events for them.
