I worked at University of Vermont

Pros

There are good students to work with, good administrative support from the university, and excellent library and course creation support.

Cons

The university does not recognize adequately achievement on the part of adjunct lecturers, and is far more focussed on research funding than teaching. Good teaching is not rewarded either financially or contractually.

Great benefits, but not applied equally; lots of personal politics

I have been working at University of Vermont

    Pros

Free tuition for up to 15 credits per year, great benefits, UVM understands the work-life balance & will help maintain it, friendly people, my department is more generous than most with the raises

    Cons

Administrative headaches, different systems run by different departments with lots of overlap, free tuition benefits are not accessible to everyone equally, poor salaries, I've seen people dressed down on a very personal level by some overreaching higher-ups

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

create a uniform system for reviewing employees - I am one of the few who gets reviewed, but it seems very subjective & "on a whim" as to whether I will get a glowing review or an awful one
