It was some of the best training in my field I have ever had.

I worked at University of Vermont full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Good training in research, especially in how to run a lab from the ground up. After training here you can start a lab anywhere, knowing the basics of what you need.

Cons

Faculty not as friendly as they could be and this caused some issues with publications and work load. Other universities place an emphasis on publishing while this one places an emphasis on you working and publishing after you are done here.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

More support should be given to postdocs and graduate students

I worked at University of Vermont as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Everything! The faculty is incredible helpful and try very hard to give undergraduates an incredible experience. I always felt that I was valued and my ideas were listened to. Professors are very receptive to undergraduates interested in research.

    Cons

HR took a while to set up direct deposit, I had to track down where they mailed my first paycheck

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the great work

I worked at University of Vermont full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Very nice town, good mix of nature and culture

    Cons

-High cost of living in comparison to the offered pay.
-Too much variance between the salaries for similar positions (ie. some people are ridiculously well-compensated while others with similar merits are not) .
-Too little diversity (mostly white males in their 30s-40s in some fields) when it comes to permanent academic positions
-Can be very cold in winter.
-Aside from UVM, not too many jobs in the state. If you are married, it might be hard for your spouse to get a job if they are not also employed by UVM.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    value diversity more
