Pros

You got to do all the homework here and still got paid by hours. It is a pretty flexible and easy job for students here.

Cons

Charlottesville is not interesting at all if you come from a huge city like. Life is kinda boring and after one year you just can't wait to leave.

Advice to Management

There aren't many jobs available for students here so if you don't have a scholarship or a job, life sucks for you.

    Pros

Thomas Jefferson's university evidently holds some place of status and recognition, so getting a PhD here isn't too bad. Nice little college town feel.

    Cons

Goofy procurement requirements/procedures when purchasing equipment, etc.

    Advice to Management

    Make landscaping stop using leafblowers

  2. I worked for a large department, handling their hiring and other HR tasks. Overall, a nice place to work.

    Pros

The opportunity to work with great people at a prestigious University.

    Cons

They have some long-standing issues with entrentched leaders and bad behavior. Like any big institution, they like to keep these things quiet. Those with money and power (like researchers wo bring in big grant money) can do as they please with no regard to rules. The University does not like people who protest or try to change things.

    Advice to Management

Worry as much about what is really happening as you do about keeping a good image. Operate transparently and the good image will come naturally.
