I have been working at University of Washington as a contractor (more than an year)

Pros

- Great compensation (housing and food)
- RA staffs are naturally friendly, helpful, and team-oriented
- Resident directors are supportive and effective in managing/motivating staff
- "Work schedule" is shaped around your class schedule

Cons

- Work can get pretty hectic at certain times of the academic year (i.e. move-in/move-out)
- Students living in the residence halls sometimes have negative perceptions of RAs

    I have been working at University of Washington part-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    Highly rated academic institution; flexibility in schedule; excellent benefits; access to public transportation; varied teaching opportunities (day, evening, online - degree and certificate programs)

    Cons

    Part time employment does not pay well and the University is moving to more adjuncts/part-time faculty just like community colleges. It's all fine well and good for budgets but not for faculty or students.

    *UW is focused on people and genuinely cares about its individuals, management is genuinely interested in the wellbeing of its employees and their careers

    *Like any large organization, working within broad policies can be frustrating
