    - working at this department you are surrounded by some of the most intelligent researchers and faculty from all parts of the world
    - great environment, locations, views
    - a lot of opportunities for research and promotions

    Cons

    - some staff employers aren´t very positive/friendly
    - bureaucracy, but that is due to it being a university department

Can be great but highly dependent on who you work for. My rating is 3.5

I worked at University of Washington full-time for more than a year

    Pros

good benefits, innovative research, flexible schedule, excellent reputation

    Cons

a tendency for management to protect research faculty over middle-management staff regardless of how inept some faculty are in the management of their staff. To be fair, a tendency to protect "more valuable staff" is not unusual-UW is simply doing what you would expect. In my particular group, complacency and loyalty were valued assets more so than others.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please teach the faculty how to be managers. It'll make the university that much better.
