I have been working at University of Washington full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

State Universities have diffuse but hierarchical power structures. There are state rules and regulations, university rules and regulations, faculty rules and regulations, programmatic rules and regulations. This is both a pro and a con. Decent benefits but noncompetitive compensation. Casual dress.

    Cons

Do not look for enlightened leadership and/or human resources policies here. There is no formal management training. Every office, much less every department, is managed differently. The State Legislature decreed no salary increases for the last four years, even if your source of funding is not from the state.

    No opinion of CEO
