Pros

Potentially stimulating environment. Pretty campus. Access to libraries, art galleries, athletic center. Some work can be considered valuable to the common good.

Cons

It's a giant public university, so obviously there are a lot of rules/regulations and general "big company" slowness and resistance to change that usually happen.

Advice to Management

Keep up what you are doing. Working with so many students who are constantly graduating can't be easy.

    Pros

I experienced a wonderful, and highly flexible, work environment. My boss was personable and understanding of my family obligations. I also found collaboration with other units to be fruitful and exciting.

    Cons

The salary was too low for the area. In addition I felt it was too low based on my qualifications (PhD). Before I was hired I tried to negotiate a better salary, but my boss explained that since the salaries are public I could not be paid higher then my colleague who had been there for 20+ years, even though she only had a Master degree and I was coming in with a PhD. I was not issued a laptop. Although I did receive a $2,000 sign on bonus.

    Advice to Management

A bit too flexible with employees. Sometimes the office felt under staffed. Employees also seemed to have disproportionate workloads.
