Typical Graduate Student Experience - Difficult, All-consuming, Exhausting

Graduate Student (Current Employee)
Madison, WI

I have been working at University of Wisconsin-Madison full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThe University of Wisconsin-Madison is a good university to get a PhD from. It has a strong research environment with good training and collaboration opportunities between departments (CALS is particularly good!). Professors and staff are knowledgeable and experienced. The overall Wisconsin community is friendly.

GREAT health benefits! It's worth it to study here just for the benefits!

ConsMy experience here is as a graduate student. You basically have no life outside of your research. Your work hours never end. The stipend is minimal.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend

I worked at University of Wisconsin-Madison as a contractor for more than a year

Pros: Light weighted workload comparing to the payment amount. Cons: Reduced budget due to the state government's decision. Advice to Senior Management: Gather more funding for Engineering Department. More
